Writer: Kelli BertramKelli Bertram

Planning a destination wedding? Whether you’re dreaming of a beachfront ceremony in Mexico, a charming villa in Italy, or an all-inclusive resort in the Caribbean, a destination wedding requires a bit more planning than a local one. But don’t worry—I’ve got you covered! Here’s a step-by-step checklist to make your destination wedding stress-free and unforgettable and I will be with you every step of the way.

12+ Months Before the Wedding: Start the Planning

Set Your Budget – Consider travel costs, accommodations, wedding package options, and any extra activities.

Choose a Destination – Pick a location that matches your vision, guest comfort, and budget.

Hire a Destination Wedding Travel Advisor (That’s Me!) – I’ll help with resort recommendations, group bookings, and travel logistics.

Confirm Legal Requirements – Every country has different marriage laws. Some require advance paperwork, residency days, or blood tests. Although, always recommend symbolic ceremonies.

Choose a Wedding Date & Venue – Check for peak seasons, weather, and resort availability.

Select Your Wedding Package – Many resorts offer customizable packages with florals, décor, and a wedding coordinator.

Build Your Guest List – Keep in mind that some guests may not be able to travel, so plan accordingly.

9-12 Months Before: Secure the Details

Build Wedding Website - This is a huge step. You will want all the wedding details, RSVP, and travel details listed so guests are informed from the beginning.

Send Out Invites – I say skip the save-the-dates and just give your guests the wedding details now. They needs lots of time to plan!

Book Accommodations for You & Your Guests – I can arrange room blocks and secure the best rates for everyone. I also get your perks and comps!

Book Your Honeymoon – Take advantage of your destination and extend your stay or go somehwere new!

6-9 Months Before: The Fun Details

Choose Your Wedding Attire – Keep in mind the destination’s climate (light fabrics for tropical weddings, for example).

Plan Your Decor & Theme – Work with the resort’s wedding team to customize your florals, colors, and ceremony setup.

Register for Gifts or a Honeymoon Fund – Some couples prefer experiences over traditional gifts. Some couples opt out of gifts since guests are paying to attend the wedding.

3-6 Months Before: Finalizing the Big Day

Plan Pre & Post-Wedding Events – Welcome parties, group excursions, and farewell brunches add to the experience.

Confirm All Vendor Details – Make sure your photographer, DJ, florist, and venue coordinator are all set.

Plan Your Wedding Day Timeline – From getting ready to the first dance, finalize the schedule.

1-2 Months Before: The Final Touches

Confirm Guest Travel Plans – Ensure guests have booked flights and accommodations.

Create a Packing List – Include wedding attire, travel essentials, and any decor or favors.

Have Your Final Dress Fitting – Make sure your wedding attire is ready to go.

1-2 Weeks Before: Time to Celebrate!

Pack Everything – Wedding day attire, documents, rings, and any decor items.

Confirm Appointments – Double-check hair & makeup, spa treatments, and excursions.

Relax & Enjoy the Moment – You’ve planned your dream wedding—now it’s time to soak it all in!
